Cleaning
Cleaning the Interior Glass
To wash the interior glass, use a premixed vinegar-based cleaning solution (or make your own with one part white vinegar to one part water) and a soft, lint-free towel (paper or cloth). Or you may use ammonia-free Windex® Glass and Surface Cleaner (clear liquid) or Sparkle® Glass Cleaner (purple liquid). Be generous with the amount of cleaner you apply. Rinse with clear water if streaks remain after cleaning.
CAUTION: Do not use glass cleaners that are ammonia- or alcohol-based.They may leave streaks or produce a film that attracts moisture or dust.
Cleaning the Exterior Glass
Cleaning the exterior glass from the interior
Use the casement handle to crank the window wide open (on 29" wide frame units, rotate the egress flipper). You'll notice that the sash moves toward the center of the frame a full 4" — you can easily reach through the opening between the sash and the frame to wash the exterior glass.
Spot Cleaning Stubborn Materials on Glass
To remove any markings from grease, oil, tape adhesive, crayons or paint, or marks from plastics that may have come in contact with the glass, apply a small amount of a nonabrasive cleanser such as Soft Scrub® (The Clorox Company) or Bar Keepers Friend® (Ser Vaas Laboratories) to a clean, wet cloth, or apply a solvent such as acetone or mineral spirits to a clean, dry cloth or towel, and rub on the areas of glass that need spot-cleaning. Take care not to get any cleansers or solvents on the wood. Wipe clean using a dry, clean, lint-free towel or cloth. Then clean the glass as mentioned above.
CAUTION: Do not use a razor blade to scrape off stubborn materials - doing so may leave permanent marks on the glass or scratches that could cause glass breakage. If a metallic object has caused a mark on the glass, Contact Us for special cleaning instructions.
